Goal setting & Mindset

‘Build a strong mindset and the rest will follow’

The first phase is to set some clear and specific goals

Short, Medium & Long term

Reduce bodyfat or improve my back squat won’t cut it, as the goal isn’t specific enough and the timeframe isn’t locked in

Change reduce bodyfat % to lose 2% bodyfat by a set date

Change I want to improve my back squat to I want to add 10kg to my back squat in 6 weeks

This way we can really dial in on a specific deadline with a specific target.

‘If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favourable’.

One of my favourite quotes, meaning have a clear goal and be relentless in your pursuit of it.

This will also assist with your mindset, if the goals are clear and the timeframe is set, then it’s a matter of executing consistently to reach your target.

Jimmy Iovine (Interscope Records, Selling Beats by Dre to Apple for 3 billion)

He uses a great analogy in The Defiant Ones, ‘Be like a race horse, a race horse where’s blinders as if they look left or right, they’ll miss a step. That’s what people should have, when you’re running after something you shouldn’t look left or right, what does this person think, what does that person think, just GO!’….

The path is never linear, there will be setbacks and hurdles to overcome.

The key is that once you meet a hurdle you don’t let it define you and dwell on it, you dust yourself off and get back on the horse in pursuit of your goals.
